This new change is related to payments. From April, the Railways is going to facilitate QR code scanning to promote online payment for passengers.

You can pay online at the ticket counter

Passengers often face many problems while buying tickets. Payment issues are bound to arise when buying tickets. Passengers will now have the option to scan the QR code while purchasing tickets from ticket counters at railway stations. Passengers will be able to make payments at their convenience through UPI apps like Google Pay and Phone Pay.

QR code facility will also be available at ticket counters, parking and food counters. Passengers will now be able to pay online by scanning the QR code. Already, many stations are providing this facility.

Fines can also be issued online

Often some people travel by train without a ticket and get caught. After that they have to pay a fine. Now passengers can also pay fine through online process. In fact, the railway staff will have a handheld terminal machine, through which the QR code will be visible on the device. Fines can be paid online by scanning the QR code.
