Weather Update: Heatwave conditions are going to prevail in Marathwada on April 17 and 18, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana on April 17-19, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on April 18 and 19.

Weather Update, Heatwave Alert: Severe heat has started wreaking havoc in many states of the country. Heatwave Alert has been issued in many states including Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra in the coming days. At the same time, closure of schools has been announced in Odisha for three days from tomorrow.

Giving information about the weather for the next five days, the Meteorological Department said, 17-21 April in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, 19-21 April in Jharkhand, 17 April in North Konkan and Saurashtra and Kutch areas, 17 April in Central Maharashtra and Marathwada. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana on April 18, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on April 18 and 19. In this, a warning of severe heat wave has been issued in Saurashtra on 17 April, in Odisha on 18-19 April and in Gangetic West Bengal on 19-21 April.

Coastal and South Interior Karnataka on April 17-19, Kerala, Mahe on April 17 and 18, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal on April 17, Konkan, Goa on April 18 and 19, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana on April 20 and Hot and humid weather conditions are going to prevail on 21st April.

Schools will remain closed in Odisha from 18 to 20 April

On the other hand, the Odisha government on Wednesday announced the closure of all government schools in the state from April 18 to 20 in view of the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s prediction of extreme heat. The School and Mass Education Department said in a press release that the government has decided to close all schools, including government, government-aided and private, for three days in view of the current scorching heat and rise in day temperature.

According to IMD forecast, the temperature is expected to gradually rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius at many places during the next two days. IMD has predicted the temperature to cross 45 degrees Celsius at some places in Odisha between April 18 and 20. Meteorologist Umashankar Das said Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest place in the entire country with a temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Minimum temperature in Delhi 20.8 degrees

Talking about the national capital Delhi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 20.8 degrees Celsius, one degree less than normal. India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. The relative humidity in the city was recorded at 59 percent till 8.30 am. IMD has predicted strong winds during the day. The maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to be around 36 degrees Celsius.
