IMD Weather Alert: Half of India scorched by fire raining from the sky; Heat wave and rain alert in many states including Bihar-Jharkhand

IMD Weather Alert: Half of India scorched by fire raining from the sky; Heat wave and rain alert in many states including Bihar-Jharkhand

Weather: There are two forms of weather in the country.  In more than half of the country including Bihar, Jharkhand, where people are scorching due to fire raining from the sky and the heat blowing with the help of western wind, rain, snowfall is happening in the Himalayan regions of Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast. The plains of northwest India got some respite from the sweltering heat, but severe thunderstorms accompanied by water and hailstorms.

IMD Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain, hailstorm at many places and heavy snowfall in high altitude areas for the next two days in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. Haryana, National Capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan, North and West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Himalayan region of West Bengal, Sikkim, North Eastern States including Arunachal and coastal Andhra Pradesh, A yellow alert has been issued for light to heavy rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm at some places in Kerala and some areas of Lakshadweep. Many of these areas received rain and thundershowers on Sunday and lightning also fell in some places. Snow fell on the mountains.

Heat wave conditions continue to sweep eastern, central and southern parts of the country. Heatwave conditions have been prevailing along the Gangetic belt of Odisha and West Bengal for the past 15 days. At present, many areas of both the states are in the grip of severe heat. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heat wave and severe heat in Jharkhand and Odisha and an orange alert for Bihar for the next two days. Apart from this, scorching heat wave conditions are also prevailing in interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, isolated areas of Kerala and many areas of Maharashtra. All schools in Tripura have been closed till May 1 due to the heatwave.

Bengaluru, the IT hub of the country, is scorching due to the scorching heat after the water crisis. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city reached 38.5 degrees Celsius. It is also more than 4 degrees above normal. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius, 3.3 notches above the season’s average, said C P Patil, director of the IMD’s Bengaluru centre. Bengaluru has recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius on April 25, 2016.

According to the IMD the maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 42-45 degrees Celsius at a few places over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana for the next five days. At the same time, maximum temperatures can be between 40-42 degrees Celsius in many parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, interior Maharashtra, north Tamil Nadu, Marathwada, east Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal.

Snowstorm hits Jammu and Kashmir, 35 vehicles stranded While  heat wave conditions prevail in more than half of the country, people are troubled by snowfall in the mountains.  The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand are in the grip of snowfall. In Jammu and Kashmir, there is also a snowstorm along with snowfall. Due to this change in weather, 35 vehicles were badly stuck in snowfall at Razdan Top in Bandipora. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) rescued these vehicles after a lot of efforts. BRO officials said the vehicles were stuck due to snowfall and snowstorm.
