Cyclone Remal Update: A storm developing in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a severe cyclone and reach the coast of West Bengal and adjacent Bangladesh on May 26. The Meteorological Department gave this information on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into North Bay of Bengal till Sunday.

Cyclone Remal: A severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ is forming in the Bay of Bengal. It is likely to reach West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast on May 26. The Meteorological Department gave this information on Thursday. Due to the cyclonic storm, there will be heavy rain in many areas of the coastal districts of West Bengal North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore while light to moderate rain is likely in some areas. The weather office said a low pressure system present over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression on Friday and then into a cyclone over east-central Bay of Bengal the next day. The Meteorological Department said that after this, by Sunday evening it will reach the coast of Bangladesh and adjacent West Bengal as a severe cyclone. The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into North Bay of Bengal till Sunday.

Cyclone Remal Storm coming?

Many posts were made on social media regarding the arrival of cyclonic storm ‘Remal’. The Alipore Meteorological Department said a low pressure has formed about seven kilometers above sea level over northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh and is moving northeast over the Bay of Bengal. The weather department said the low pressure formed over the south-west and adjoining areas yesterday has moved north-east and is situated as an isolated depression over west central and south Bay of Bengal.

Where will the storm landfall?

It may move north-eastwards and become a cyclonic circulation over central Bay of Bengal on 24 May. It may then move north-eastwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal on the morning of 25 May. After this, it will move towards north and may take the form of a severe cyclonic storm on the evening of 26th May and may reach close to the coast of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. However, there is no clear ‘landfall’ or where the cyclone will make landfall.

Heavy rain in which areas of Bengal?

However, on Sunday, August 26, the Alipore Meteorological Department had predicted disaster in the coastal districts. There will be rain in North and South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a possibility of strong winds. What will be the speed of Cyclone Remal? It is not clear. There is a possibility of 70 to 110 mm of rain in these three districts on Saturday. There is also a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour in these three districts on Sunday.
