BJP promises free health insurance for the elderly; What is Ayushman Bharat Scheme?

Ayushman Bharat scheme details: Bringing 70-year-olds under the Ayushman Bharat scheme is one of the many promises made by the ruling BJP party in its election manifesto this time. The Ayushman Bharat Yojana launched by the Center in 2018 currently has free health insurance only for the SC ST community and the poor. No matter the number of people in a family, the total medical expenses up to Rs 5 lakh per year are covered. There is insurance coverage for almost all diseases except some diseases like fertility, AIDS etc.

In its election manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party has promised to bring sexual minorities and every person above the age of 70 under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Ayushman Bharat is one of the ambitious schemes of the central government. At present this is a scheme available to poor and SC ST people. Now the BJP has promised that all people above the age of 70 will be given the benefits of the scheme (Ayushman Bharat scheme) if it comes back to power.

What is Ayushman Bharat Yojana?

This is a scheme started by the central government in the month of September 2018. For families below the poverty line, treatment costs of Rs 5 lakh per annum will be covered. Its cost will be borne by the central and state governments in the ratio of 60:40. That is, the central government If 60% of the cost is borne, the state governments 40% will cover the cost of treatment.

A family has no Miri for the beneficiaries. No matter how many people, no matter what age, they all have coverage. But whether the family members are two or ten, the coverage limit is only Rs 5 lakh per annum.

Many health insurance companies do not insure people with pre-existing conditions. They will have coverage in Ayushman Bharat.

Beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Yojana can be admitted and treated not only in government hospitals but also in private hospitals. Cashless treatment is available. There is treatment coverage for diseases such as cancer, kidney, heart disease, burns etc.

These diseases are not covered under Ayushman Bharat

  • Treatment in OPD (Outpatient Department)
  • Fertility treatment like IVF etc
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Dental treatment
  • HIV treatment
  • Drug and alcohol addiction treatment
