UPI In Mauritius-Sri Lanka: After France, now India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) service can also be used in Mauritius and Sri Lanka. PM Modi has launched UPI virtually in both the countries. Recently its services were started in France.

India’s Unified Payment Interface i.e. UPI is going global and many countries have shown interest in adopting it. Now it has been expanded further and people in Mauritius and Sri Lanka will also be able to use UPI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch this service in both countries today. During this, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth along with Central Bank Governors of the three countries will also be present.

RuPay card facility with UPI as well

The information was shared by the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday while issuing a press release about the launch. After the launch of UPI services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, people of both the countries will be able to use it in their respective places. Apart from this, tourists traveling from India to Mauritius and Sri Lanka and tourists coming from there to India will also be able to make payments through it. Not only UPI but also RuPay card service has been launched in Mauritius.

UPI was launched in 2016

India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) continues to grow in popularity. Run by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the service was launched by the Modi government in 2016. It has made online payment extremely easy for the transaction of money. UPI provides an easy way to transfer money directly to your bank account. It is capable of real time fund transfer and is developed on IMPS model.

About 20000 Indians live in Mauritius

Every year more than 5,000 Indian tourists arrive in Mauritius and the total population there includes about 20000 people of Indian origin. Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth said during the event that the idea of launching UPI in the country was conceived during the G20 summit held in India and now its use has been started. In order to use UPI in Mauritius, the user will have to download UPI Global and UPI International and through this will be able to take advantage of the easy transaction facility. Along with UPI services, RuPay Card has also been launched in Mauritius ie its services can also be availed there.

Active in many countries including France-Singapore

Indian payment system is active in France, Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan before UPI launch in Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Let us tell you that after the introduction of UPI, there has been a significant increase in online transactions. It is increasing year by year and can be estimated by looking at the NPCI data. According to this, a record transaction of Rs 18.23 lakh crore was made through UPI in December 2023 as well, which was 54 per cent more than the same period last year 2022.
