The heat is very high this summer. Apart from Karnataka, heat waves are severe in many parts of the country. This time there is a high possibility of damage to farmers’ crops. It is difficult for the farmers to recover if their crops are lost due to excessive expenditure. You may enter the vicious cycle of debt. For that, the government has implemented a crop insurance scheme for farmers. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was implemented in 2016. This brought relief to many farmers.
In case of damage to crops due to natural calamities and accidents, compensation can be obtained through insurance schemes. Farmers get compensation if crops are destroyed due to natural calamities like heavy rains, droughts, hot winds, cyclones and landslides.
How to get compensation for crop loss?
In case of crop damage due to natural calamities, the relevant insurance company or the local agriculture office should be informed within 72 hours of the incident. Then the concerned authorities will assess the extent of the damage. After this the solution process starts. Even if the crop is damaged due to hot winds, it should be brought to the attention of the agriculture department office within 72 hours.
33% of the crop should be destroyed
Under the Pradhan Mantri Panta Bima Yojana, if the farmers receive crop loss compensation, there should be at least 33 percent crop loss. Then you are eligible to claim compensation. Generally the compensation amount will reach your account within 14 days of you applying for the insurance claim. For more information visit Fasal Bima Yojana official website.
