According to the latest data from Layoff.FYI, a website that tracks job cuts in the tech sector, 46 tech companies laid off 7,528 employees (as of January 14). Tech companies, including startups, across the world laid off more than 425,000 employees in 2022 and 2023, while India laid off more than 36,000 employees in the same time frame.
Jobs lost in these companies
Online rental platform Frontdesk became the first tech startup to lay off its entire 200 employees in 2024 during a two-minute Google Meet call. Gaming company Unity has announced to lay off 25 percent of its workforce i.e. about 1,800 employees in its new job cut round.
Layoffs took place in Google too
Google confirmed last week that it had cut several hundred jobs across its hardware, core engineering and Google Assistant teams. According to the report, the layoffs will affect employees of Google’s hardware and central engineering teams as well as Google Assistant employees. Citigroup announces major layoffs
Global data management solution provider Veeam Software has reportedly laid off 300 employees. According to media reports, Disney-owned animation studio Pixar is also set to cut jobs this year. Global banking major Citigroup will reduce 10 per cent of its workforce or about 20,000 employees over the next two years as part of a major corporate overhaul.
