Driving License New Rules: It will be easier to get a driving license from now on! New rules will come from June 1

Driving License New Rules: Now the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced major changes to the rules in India, which will make the process of obtaining a driver’s license much simpler.

Driving License New Rules: Obtaining an Indian Driving License in India is a cumbersome process as the applicant has to fill various forms and approach multiple authorities. The bureaucratic complexity of the driving license process increases the scope of corruption in the system, ultimately affecting road safety in India. To tackle such shortcomings, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has now introduced major changes to the rules in India, which will make the process of obtaining a driver’s license much simpler.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will implement new rules for obtaining an Indian Driving License on June 1, 2024.

From June 1, 2024, getting a driving license in India will undergo significant changes, with individuals no longer required to pass a driving test at a government Regional Transport Office (RTO). The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced new rules aimed at simplifying the process and promoting clean fuel.

Here are the key changes in the rules starting June 1

Individuals can now take driving tests at private driving instruction institutes rather than government RTOs from June 1, 2024.
These organizations are allowed to conduct tests and issue driving license eligibility certificates.

Fines for speeding continue to range between ₹1000 and ₹2000. A fine of ₹25,000 will be imposed if a minor is driving.
Minors will not be able to get a license until they turn 25 and the vehicle owner’s registration card will also be cancelled.

The ministry has simplified the documentation required for the new licence. The specific documents required vary depending on the type of vehicle (two-wheeler or four-wheeler). This will reduce the need for physical tests at RTOs.

Rules for Private Driving Schools

  • Driving schools should have at least 1 acre of land (2 acres for four-wheeler training).
  • Schools should provide appropriate testing facilities to students.
  • Trainers must have a high school education (or equivalent), at least 5 years of driving experience and an understanding of biometrics and information technology systems.
  • Light Motor Vehicles (LMV): 29 hours over 4 weeks, consisting of 21 hours hands-on instruction and 8 hours theory.
  • Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV): 31 hours of practical training and 8 hours of theoretical training in 6 weeks.
  • These regulations ensure that new drivers receive high quality education and training at private training institutes.
