WhatsApp: WhatsApp is working on a new feature, with the help of which users will be able to share large files with nearby devices. This will be similar to Google’s Nearby Share and Apple’s AirDrop feature. It is expected that this feature coming on WhatsApp will be even easier. Currently, it is not possible for users to share large files on WhatsApp, but after the introduction of this feature, users will be able to share large files easily. Let us tell you about this feature in detail.
WhatsApp Nearby Sharing Feature
This new feature of WhatsApp is currently available with WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.24.2.20 update, but it is not yet available for beta testers so you cannot try it.
This feature of WhatsApp will allow the user to share files with nearby devices through WhatsApp. According to the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, there is a new ‘people nearby’ section on WhatsApp.
How will this feature work?
The screenshot shows that to share files, both users have to turn on this feature. Your visibility will be shown along with your WhatsApp name and your phone number will be hidden for non-contacts.
The person receiving the file will have to open WhatsApp and shake their device to see your share request.
WhatsApp says that file sharing is also end-to-end encrypted. But no information has been given by WhatsApp about the maximum size of the file. It is expected that this feature will be able to share large files. Also, it may be possible to share files without internet connectivity like Google.
The file sharing feature of WhatsApp is currently being tested and there is no information available about when it will be available for all users. It is expected that soon it can be seen on the beta platform.
