UPI Payment: UPI transactions will be suspended from April 1st.. Payments will no longer be possible!

UPI Payment: These days everyone is using UPI services. In this context, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has taken a key decision. UPI services linked to these mobile numbers will be stopped. Such people will not be able to do any UPI transactions.

New rules for UPI users are coming. These new rules will come into effect from April 1, 2025. This will affect users of payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has said that it will remove mobile numbers linked to the long-defunct UPI from bank accounts. If your bank account is linked to a non-existent phone number, it will be removed. After this, it will not be possible to make UPI transactions through a non-existent phone number.

New rule to curb cybercrimes

The number of cybercrimes in the country has been increasing rapidly for some time now. In view of this, the NPCI has decided to implement a new rule. NPCI says that UPI and banking systems can cause technical glitches through defunct phone numbers. Telecom operators allocate defunct numbers to other users. This increases the risk of fraud. Along with this, NPCI has asked banks and UPI apps to update the record of inactive mobile numbers every week.

These users will be most affected

This decision will have the biggest impact on users whose bank accounts are still linked to the old number even after getting a new mobile number. Users using UPI with inactive mobile numbers will also face problems due to this decision. If your bank account is linked to an old number or a number that is no longer active, update your number with the bank account. Also, you can activate an inactive phone number by contacting your telecom service provider. Once your number is activated, you can continue to use UPI services as before even after April 1.
