UPI New Guidelines: NPCI has ordered to close inactive UPI numbers and IDs. After this, banks along with third party UPI apps like Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe will also have to remove inactive UPI numbers from the platform.
On behalf of the government agency NPCI i.e. National Payment Corporation of India, which runs the UPI network, third party UPI apps like Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe were asked to block such UPI IDs and numbers which have not made any transaction for more than a year. It hasn’t happened. This order of NPCI is being seen as an attempt to make the UPI network secure. With this, only the number or UPI ID that people are using will remain active on the UPI network.
Time given till 31st December
NPCI has given time till December 31, 2023 to banks and third party apps to deactivate inactive UPI numbers and IDs. In such a situation, if the user wants that his UPI ID and number network is not removed, then he has to keep his UPI active. While removing or shutting down the UPI ID and number network, banks and third party apps will have to inform the users through email and message.
11 billion UPI transactions done
In the notification issued by NPCI, it was said that 11 billion more transactions have taken place through UPI. Nearly one billion transactions have increased in the last two months. Also, NPCI said that it has come to our notice that customers change their mobile numbers. At the same time, the old number is not removed from the system. In such a situation, according to TRAI guidelines, the old number can be issued to a new user. For this reason, all banks and third apps have been ordered to remove all such inactive UPI IDs and numbers from which no transaction of any kind is being done.
Let us tell you, money can be received with the help of inactive UPI ID. In such a situation, if these UPI app numbers and IDs are removed from the network, no transaction of any kind will be possible.
