Delhi-Meerut RRTS Details: Passengers traveling by RapidX trains will have to pay ₹20 for a standard coach seat on the 17 km priority section from Sahibabad to Ghaziabad’s Duhai depot, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said. ₹50, while those choosing premium coach will have to spend ₹40-100 per seat for the same distance.
RapidX trains will start running for passengers from October 21, a day after the inauguration scheduled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The six-coach RapidX trains will have one premium class coach while the remaining five coaches will be standard.
The fare came out
NCRTC, the agency implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, has released the fare for the 17 km priority section in Ghaziabad. At the same time, it was told that this will be the first RRTS section in the country to start passenger operations on the 17 km section comprising Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot stations.
Punit Vats, Chief Public Relations Officer, NCRTC, said, ‘The fare is defined station-by-station and the current fare charges will be applicable for travel between five stations in the priority section.’
As per the fares released, a standard class coach passenger will have to pay ₹50 to travel from Sahibabad to Duhai depot, while a premium coach passenger will have to pay ₹100 for the same distance.
Passengers traveling between Ghaziabad and Sahibabad will have to spend ₹30 to Sahibabad RRTS station for traveling in standard class coach and ₹60 for premium class travel.
As per the fare chart, the per kilometer cost of travel on the entire 17 km priority section is ₹2.94 km in standard coach and ₹5.88 in premium coach.
According to the 2009 project report on the RRTS project, the initial fare for the entire 82 km network was expected to be ₹2 per kilometre. This figure was expected to increase further due to inflation and price rise.
How much do auto drivers charge?
Generally, a rented auto in Ghaziabad charges anything from ₹100-150 for the distance of 17 km between Sahibabad and Duhai depot. An auto can charge between ₹75-90 to travel from Ghaziabad to Sahibabad. Please note that metro option is not available here.
But Delhi Metro sources said that ₹10 and ₹60 are the minimum and maximum fares for travel on the metro network.
Travel for free
NCRTC officials said that children below 90 cm height will be allowed to travel free, while various ticket options have been kept for the passengers.
To book tickets, passengers will get options like digital QR code based ticket phone app RapidX Connect, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and paper QR code-based travel tickets.
Officials said luggage with dimensions of 80 cm x 50 cm x 30 cm and a maximum weight of up to 25 kg per passenger will be allowed.
