The situation of Pakistan, which is facing the biggest economic crisis in its history, does not seem to be improving. On one hand, people are suffering due to inflation, on the other hand, fuel shortage (Pakistan Fuel Crisis) is at its peak. While petrol and diesel have become out of reach of the people of the country after one increase after another, the impact of fuel shortage is visible on Pakistan’s aviation sector and PIA is having to cancel its flights.
Why did the flights have to be canceled?
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has canceled 48 flights due to fuel shortage. Restrictions on fuel supply due to non-payment of dues as well as some operational issues continue to affect flight operations of Pakistan International Airlines. The 24 flights canceled yesterday included 11 international and 13 domestic flights. So PIA has canceled 24 flights for Wednesday also. These include 16 international and 8 domestic flights. Apart from this, the possibility of delay in many flights has also been expressed.
Circumstances arising from failure to pay dues
Due to not being able to pay the dues, Pakistan Airlines (PIA) is already facing operational problems and huge losses. Now the fuel shortage has reached its peak and this is the main reason why airlines have to cancel a large number of their flights and the flights which are present at different locations are also getting delayed. About 12 flights of PIA are running late.
Pakistan State Oil stopped fuel supply
According to the report of Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the domestic flight operations of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been badly affected. This crisis was also seen on Monday, the first day of the week. On Monday, due to non-payment of dues, the airline had to cancel 14 flights and four flights were delayed due to stoppage of fuel supply. The report quoted official sources as saying that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has stopped fuel supply to the national airline over the issue of non-payment of dues.
Air passengers are facing problems
Due to continuous cancellation and delay of flights by PIA, a large number of air passengers are facing problems for the last several days. Due to delay in flights, not only the passengers but also the flight crew are facing inconvenience. According to Dawn, Pakistan’s acting Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar had already directed the concerned authorities to accelerate the process of privatization of Pakistan International Airlines, as the airline is facing financial crisis.
