One Rank One Pension: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has directed to release the third installment of ‘One Rank, One Pension’ (OROP) scheme just before Diwali. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh issued this order on Thursday. Rajnath Singh has directed the Defense Ministry to release the third installment of payment under the One Rank, One Pension Scheme to the former defense personnel receiving pension through the Sparsh system. According to the Defense Minister’s Office, instructions have been given to release the third installment of OROP for pension to all ex-servicemen before Diwali.
Defense Ministry pensioners receiving pension through banks and other agencies have been instructed to do the same.
PM Modi had made this announcement regarding OROP
It is noteworthy that on August 15, the Prime Minister had also mentioned One Rank One Pension Scheme (OROP). The Prime Minister said that this was a long pending demand of defense pensioners, which the government had implemented as soon as it came to power.
He said, “OROP was a matter of honor for the soldiers of our country. When we came to power, we implemented it. Today Rs 70,000 crore has been delivered to the ex-servicemen and their families.”
Pension will be re-determined every five years
The government had taken a historic decision to implement One Rank, One Pension (OROP) for defense forces personnel and family pensioners. Policy letter issued on November 7, 2015 for revision of pension from July 1, 2014. In the said policy paper, it was mentioned that in future the pension would be re-determined every five years.
