Indian Railway News: Indian Railways will convert two railway coaches, which are no longer in service, into theme-based restaurants at Katra and Jammu railway stations. This initiative has been named ‘Beautiful Restaurant on Wheels’, under which old train coaches are being renovated and converted into rail coach restaurants.

Jammu’s Divisional Transport Manager (DTM) Prateek Srivastava told PTI, ‘The work of building two rail-coach restaurants is going on in Jammu and Katra. This is a scheme of Indian Railways under which old coaches are converted into rail-coach restaurants. For this, the contract has been given to two different parties.

He said that these two air-conditioned restaurants will jointly generate an annual revenue of Rs 50 lakh. Srivastava said, ‘Under this scheme, we are providing these compartments to private parties to build state-of-the-art restaurants as per the design of their choice.’

The first restaurant is expected to open by December. These two restaurants will be named ‘Annapurna’ and ‘Maa Durga’. Pradeep Gupta, owner of Annapurna restaurant, told PTI, “It will take 90 days to convert a compartment into a fully operational restaurant. It will be equipped with all necessary facilities.

Similar restaurants have already been successfully launched at nine-ten major railway stations across India. DTM said, ‘As per my knowledge, this type of restaurants are already operational at many railway stations like Jabalpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Varanasi.’

He said that both these restaurants being built at Jammu and Katra railway stations will also serve non-vegetarian food and will be fully air-conditioned.
