Weather updates: For the past few days, most parts of the country including Delhi, NCR and UP have been in the grip of severe heat. The Met office has predicted severe heat wave conditions for a few more days. The Met department has predicted that there is no sign of respite from heat wave conditions for the next four to five days. On the other hand, a red alert has been issued for heavy rains in the South Indian state of Kerala. At least four people died due to heavy rains here.
Scorching heat continued in most parts of the country on Wednesday. In Rajasthan’s Barmer, the mercury touched 48 degrees Celsius, the highest so far this year. The IMD in its latest bulletin has warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of east and west Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh till April 26. Delhi and Madhya Pradesh will also continue to experience severe heat till April 26.
Mercury reached 44 degrees
On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 43.4 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above average. The minimum temperature is likely to settle at 30.9 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average. At least 24 places in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh recorded maximum temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or above on Wednesday due to the intense heatwave.
The highest maximum temperature of 48 degrees Celsius was recorded in Barmer in Rajasthan. Haryana’s Sirsa came second with 47.7 degrees. After this, Bathinda in Punjab recorded a record 46.6 degrees temperature. Kandla in Gujarat recorded a high of 46.1 degrees Celsius, Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh recorded a high of 45 degrees Celsius and Akola in Maharashtra recorded a high of 44.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a severe heat warning for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Also, people of all ages have been advised to avoid heatstroke.
Warning of heavy rain in these states
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a warning of heavy rains in five states of Kerala. The IMD said an orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. There is a yellow alert for Kannur and Kasaragod . Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry have also warned of heavy to very heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains in Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the next seven days.
Four people died due to heavy rain in Kerala
Due to heavy rains in Kerala four people died in different parts. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts.
