That is, EPF money can be claimed up to one lakh rupees in case of medical treatment. EPFO issued a circular on April 16 increasing the withdrawal limit u/s 68J. On 10th April, the EPF App made appropriate changes in the software. The Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) has also approved this change.
Partial withdrawal of funds from EPF account for various purposes can be done through Application Form 31. There is a list of various reasons like marriage, loan, house purchase, house construction, medical etc. However, EPF funds for medical treatment can be applied under para 68J of this form. Not only the EPF member but also his family members are eligible for withdrawal even when they are not receiving medical treatment due to illness. Along with the application form 31, the EPF account holder should also submit a certificate signed by the treating doctor of the company where the EPF account holder works.
What is Form 31?
EPF Form 31 allows withdrawal of money for various reasons. Purchase of house, construction of house, purchase of plot can be given as reason under section 68B. Repayment of loan under para 68BB: Prerequisite for special case under 68H. For medical treatment under 68J, para 68K child marriage, education expenses, physically disabled under para 68N, withdrawal of money is allowed up to one year before retirement under 68NN.
